Summary draft (1)

In the article “The Perils of Over-sharing in Social Networks”, Emm (2014) believes that the Internet, through different applications, play an essential role in society as it aids and provides convenience. Emm however fears an over-reliance as well as private lives becoming increasingly public with this dependency. Exposing ourselves on the Internet poses danger to personal lives and work when confidential details land in the wrong hands. Since “cyber-crimes” commonly take place through computers, users of mobile devices tend to let their guards down. To protect us from falling victims, Emm suggests using security softwares or simply being vigilant online.

  1. Content:
The overall content is good as most of the points from the original article are shown in the summary. Main ideas of the article were paraphrased and certain supporting ideas were also included. Proper referencing and citations were also used.

    Organisation:
The summary is also well-organised as the points were written in accordance to the original article. However, it would be better if more transition words are used to make the summary more fluent. In addition, it would be better if the focus is given to a certain main idea since it will relate to your reader's response.

    Language use:
There are a few problems with the language in the summary.

    - In the article “The Perils of Over-sharing in Social Networks”, Emm (2014) believes that the Internet, through different applications, play an essential role in society as it aids and provides convenience. (as it aids (what) and provides convenience)
    - Emm however fears an over-reliance as well as private lives becoming increasingly public with this dependency. (structure)
    - Exposing ourselves on the Internet poses danger to personal lives and work when confidential details land in the wrong hands. (on(to) the internet)
    - Since “cyber-crimes” commonly take place through computers, users of mobile devices tend to let their guards down. (Structure)

Good effort and a good read nonetheless!
